Spirit Animal Jackpot

Hawk sightings have long been an endorsing omen to me that I’m on the right path. They show up at exactly the right moments. 

The story behind this piece occurred while my mom was still living. She had been declining for some time and there was a lot of resistance from her and my step dad about getting help. I knew I needed to have a conversation with them to shift things. 

On my way to their place before I had that conversation, I saw a hawk. I was heartened by the sighting. I drove a bit further, and there appeared a second hawk. “What?!?!?! Two hawks!!!!!” I exclaimed aloud! Now I was doubly heartened. Continuing my drive, I saw a THIRD hawk! I shrieked with delight and disbelief at this profound occurrence. The phrase, Spirit Animal Jackpot, flashed before my eyes like a neon sign. I knew I would paint this at some point. 

The story doesn’t end there. I had the conversation and things shifted, and help came. The following week, I was going over to visit Mom and once again, I saw a hawk on my way. Followed by a second hawk. And again, a third hawk. I’m sure my jaw was on the floor as I continued on my drive. Awe, filled my spirit as I recognized that these two triple hawk sightings were like parentheses or book ends around that pivotal conversation that shifted the course of things. Spirit works in mysterious ways.
